A Photography You Like

(Población La Victoria, 2015)

I took this photography in 2015. That year I finished high school and found out that I had entered the University of Chile. The photo shows the hood of La Victoria on a cloudy day, Carlos Marx street appears and some shoes are hanging from the electric cables. The shoes represent divisions of gangs that operate in the neighborhood, the neighborhood where I was born and raised.

When I was little I always saw this act of hanging shoes on television, I did not understand why, but then I realized the different problems that those of us who live in this type of neighborhood experience. And I am not referring to crime, but to the great social difference that exists in our country, where those who have money live in peace and security and those who have little have to face these types of events on a daily basis.

But my neighborhood is beautiful, because of its people and the solidarity that we have and all that we have resisted through the years.
